Anshu Wahi will start work July 31 as Bainbridge Island’s first Equity and Inclusion manager.
Wahi has provided diversity, equity, and inclusion services for a variety of academic institutions from the United Kingdom, New York, California Washington and beyond. In her 18 years of experience, Wahi has written and spoken extensively about issues related to DEI. She earned a master’s in education from Harvard University and holds a bachelor’s degree psychology from Dartmouth College.
“She brings with her a breadth of DEI knowledge that will help her work with staff and the community to develop and enhance city programs and operations,” said Blair King, city manager.
Wahi said she looks forward to returning to the Seattle area. Some of her first tasks with BI will include reviewing various city activities with an equity lens, working on the Americans with Disabilities Act transition plan, providing staff support to the Race Equity Advisory Committee, and program development for city staff and the community.
She added that BI has made an admirable commitment to equitable and inclusive lives for its citizens and workforce.
“Being from the Pacific Northwest, I have spent many wonderful moments on the island, and I am excited to collaborate with the city and its community in creating a just and diverse society. Serving a local municipality provides great opportunity for impactful DEI work.”
The City Council approved the position in the 2023-24 budget. The city received 179 applicants.
