Kitsap County court cases

Child rape

A 64-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court Oct. 19 charged with attempted rape of a child.

Bail was $250,000. He faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Kitsap sheriff’s reports say the man was arrested at 1:56 p.m. in the 5000 block of Kitsap Way in Bremerton.

On Oct. 13 a detective in Minnesota contacted Navy Criminal Investigative Service regarding an online covert investigation targeting adults seeking minor children for sexual exploitation. On Oct. 9 the detective identified screen name “Tom Smith” user name “hotsteel69” with an online group known to promote families who are sexually active with their parents and open to exchanging child sexual abuse material and arranging sexual exchange of children.

On Oct. 11 the detective posed as a mother with a minor daughter. “Tom Smith” texted him about sexual acts he wanted to do with the mom and child. The phone number connected to the next was the Port Orchard man. The suspect described his experience going back to age 10 with numerous family members. He sent a photo, which the detective matched with his driver’s license. When asked about a gift for the 5-year-old daughter, the suspect said he could bring a Beanie Baby.

Law enforcement set up a meeting at a hotel Oct. 18, where he was arrested.

$1 million bail

An 18-year-old Lakewood man was in Kitsap County Superior Court Oct. 19, arrested on a warrant from May 8 for charges of intimidating a witness.

Bail was set at $1 million. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Bremerton police reports say on May 5 at 4 p.m. at the Kitsap County Jail a detective heard a recorded phone call. During his time in jail, the suspect made multiple calls to two men.

As the detective listens to other calls, the suspect explains what he wants the pair to do. “I need you to make it rain bro.” The detective says “make it rain” means shoot a firearm.

The suspect explained the location and house and that there would be no dogs there. He explains what to take from the home and to go in the early morning hours.

One of the men asks if the suspect wants him to “hit” the victim. He says he does not care and to “let off.” He said park away from the apartment so he’s not implicated. The man agreed to have the suspect’s back if caught.

He faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine. Bail was set at $50,000. The man has been convicted twice before of a “most serious offense.”

Port Orchard police reports say they responded to a call of an assault in the 1600 block of SE Mile Hill Drive at Arby’s around 5:38 p.m. Oct. 16. The man, wearing a black shirt, black pants and black hat, walked behind the customer service counter and grabbed an employee on her buttocks.
