Chief Kitsap Academy juniors Jazmine Ortiz and Crystal Purcell organized Carmen’s Prom to fundraise for Suquamish Elementary student Carmen Garringer. She was diagnosed with extraosseous Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of cancer among children. The prom was held April 13, and raised $10,000, recently awarded to the Caring for Carmen Foundation. The Suquamish Tribe pledged to match the funds, up to $5,000.
