Former Bainbridge Island resident Billie Martino died peacefully at home with her husband in Kihei, Hawaii on December 14, three days short of her 100th birthday. Billie Wanda Mocabee was born in Morehouse, Missouri to Walter McClure Mocabee and Vera Clark Mocabee. She met her husband of 80 years, Victor Martino, Jr., while working in his family’s bakery in Burbank, California. The family spent many summers together camping with friends in Yosemite National Park. When Victor retired from Martino’s Bakery they moved to Carmel, California and then spent twelve years on Bainbridge Island near family. They enjoyed four years in Monterey before joining other family members on Maui. Billie was a generous and loving mother and friend who enjoyed travel, good food, dressing well, walks in Fort Ward, and the beauty of nature everywhere (she was particularly fond of sea otters). She is survived by her husband Victor Martino, Jr., her children Vic Martino (Maggie Smith) of Bainbridge Island, Gregory Martino (Marlene) of Maui, and Ilene (Tom) Bellerue of Maui, and her grandsons Orion Cruz, Teo Cruz, Tiago Martino, and Nicolas Martino.
