Spring cleaning is common in people’s homes, but in Port Orchard, the entire city gets in on it.
The city and Waste Management are offering the program again this year April 15-19. In addition to regular refuse pick-up, residents can place additional items, such as appliances, at the curb. It is not a week for recycle or yard waste pickup. Pick-up is on your regular day.
The city has offered this event since the early 1990s. Due to an increase in residents taking part in the program, the city has implemented a tagging system for articles not collected that do not meet program requirements.
Some items are free, others require a fee. Items must be covered, boxed, bagged, bundled or easily handled. The volume must fit into a space 4 feet by 4 feet wide and 4 feet tall.
Items that will be taken at no charge are: baby crib-high chair-playpen-stroller; barbecue sans propane tank; baseboard heater; bicycle; coffee or end table; computer monitors; dresser; electric fan; space heater; file cabinet; furniture; garbage disposal; lawn table or chair; lawn mower sans oil and gas; masonite; medicine cabinet; small rugs; stereo; plastic swimming pool folded; disassembled swing set; home gym equipment; TVs; vacuum cleaner; and VCR or DVD players.
