Bail is set at $640,000 for a 56-year-old Bremerton man who was in Superior Court May 3 charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver meth.
He faces 25 years in prison and at least $31,000 in fines, but because of two previous “most serious offense” convictions he will likely face life in prison without possibility of parole.
Court papers show Bremerton police responded to the 1000 block of Burwell Street May 2 at 8:43 a.m. to make an arrest.
A witness said someone threw a rock and hit a window, and a man inside fired his handgun out the window April 26. The woman fell to the ground and cried as she was scared. She asked the man to quit shooting at the person outside, who was said to be her boyfriend. The woman later ran outside and told that man to leave. The suspect then tried to “round up his buddies to have his back.”
On April 29, the woman said that same suspect again shot at her boyfriend in almost the exact situation. The witness also said the suspect is a drug dealer. She said he paid $750 April 30 for more drugs. He had a baseball-sized cluster of both fentanyl and meth. He had done deals from Port Orchard to Bremerton.
While arresting the suspect, he said he never shot at the other man. One of his texts said he didn’t want to go back to prison for defending himself. He had almost $1,550 on him, but doesn’t have a job. He said the money is from Social Security Insurance payments and the fact that he saves his change. A look at his texts showed he was selling drugs.
Racist road rage?
A 45-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court May 2 charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
Bail was $50,000. He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines. However, since he has two previous “most serious offense” convictions, he faces a mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole.
Court papers say Bremerton police responded to the 4000 block of Wheaton Way in Bremerton at 7:43 p.m. May 1.
An officer said he arrived at the scene of an unrelated domestic violence call where emergency vehicles responded. He got out of his patrol car when a vehicle drove by at about 60 mph in a 25 mph zone and almost hit him. A passenger car seemed to be chasing that vehicle. The officer gave chase of both vehicles and estimated speeds reached 90 mph.
The vehicles finally stopped. The suspect in the lead vehicle wouldn’t talk, but the one following said that driver had run his friend on a motorcycle off the road, causing a crash. The motorcyclist was called to the scene and said the suspect tried to hit him on the road.
At the Kitsap County jail the officer was told this could be a racist attack as the suspect had once been arrested for a hate crime. The victim asked if the suspect could be charged with attempted manslaughter.
Axe attack
A 31-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court May 2 charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and malicious mischief.
He faces 11 years in prison and $25,000 in fines, but since he’s been convicted twice of “most serious offenses” the mandatory penalty is life in prison without parole.
Court papers say Kitsap deputies responded to Bandix Road SE in Olalla May 1 at 5:18 p.m. Officers found out a man had been struck with an axe and the suspect took off so a K-9 unit was called in to track him.
A woman said her boyfriend was on fentanyl and “trying to pick fights with everyone.” She went to take a shower, and he broke in armed with a large steak knife. She decided to leave a little later with her children, and the man came out and threw an axe at her former brother-in-law, hitting him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. She ran off with the kids, while her ex-husband separated the other two men.
Officers tracked the suspect, who they found shirtless, with no shoes, wearing very wet pants and equipped with a large backpack leaf blower. He was blowing dirt off a driveway. He had taken a hatchet to several doors within the residence.
Stealing copper
A 51-year-old Belfair man was in Kitsap County Superior Court May 1 on a charge of residential burglary.
Bail was $55,000. He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
Court records show Bremerton police responded April 30 at 8:19 a.m. to the 1100 block of Rainier Avenue. The house was supposed to be empty, but smoke was coming from the chimney. That home and one just south of it both were involved in a housefire that has led to many transient trespass details.
The homeowner, who is living in an AirBnB due to the fires, gave police permission to intervene. Police told the occupant to get out, but he did not cooperate. Once inside police saw someone was dismantling pipe and cable. The officer said the suspect was planning to take copper wire and scrap metal to pay for illicit drugs. Items synonymous with drug use were found.
A tent was set up in an upstairs room. The suspect said he was doing work for the owner but that was not true.
Child porn
A 61-year-old Poulsbo man was in Superior Court May 1 charged with possession of depictions of a minor under 13 in the first degree.
Bail was set at $100,000. He faces 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
Court records show Kitsap County deputies in 2023 investigated Cybertipline reports for Sept. 23 at 9:55 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 11:04 p.m. They found seven files of “apparent child pornography” and another with “child unclothed.” One 22-second video was of a girl 5-12 years old. There were similar 10-, 11- and two 59-second videos. There were 22- and 10-second videos of girls under age 18.
Investigators had to go through a number of different computer programs to find the identity of the suspect.
Teen with weapon
A Port Orchard 16-year-old was in Juvenile Court May 2 charged with exhibiting a weapon.
The incident occurred May 1, Port Orchard police say in court papers. No more details were available because it’s a juvenile case.
