Kitsap Humane Society’s annual PetsWalk takes place June 1 in downtown Poulsbo.
Presented by VCA Central Kitsap Animal Hospital, the charity 5K provides waterfront views and a mostly flat course for dogs and their owners. There is also a one-mile option. Participants can walk or run with or without a furry friend. All dogs have to be on a leash. There will also be trash cans for pet waste at water stations along the course.
The race starts at 9 a.m. at Lions Park and ends at Waterfront Park. Check-in takes place at 7:30 a.m. Registration is $30 for adults and $20 for kids 12 and younger. All registered walkers will receive a KHS bandana. Afterward, a vendor fair will be held at Waterfront Park at 11 a.m. The fair will include race awards, costume contest, talent contest, wiggle butt contest and live music.
Funds go toward shelter pets in need, such as medical care. The goal is $40,000, and just under $20,000 had been raised as of May 8. There are certain prizes in relation to how much a person or team donates.
