A Poulsbo man who was the godfather of the teenage victim was charged in Kitsap County Superior Court May 17 with sex crimes.
Bail was set at $500,000. The 56-year-old man was charged with child molestation, rape of a child and second-degree assault. He faces 25 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.
In court papers, Kitsap deputies report that on March 12 a 17-year-old girl reported a sexual relationship with her godfather. It occurred when she was 13-17 years old while living in his care. The girl did not live with her mom or dad. Over the years she said they had sex between 1,000 and 2,000 times. Mason County officers investigated when they moved to Belfair when she was 14-15. But she lied to police because the suspect said he would kill himself if caught.
In October of 2023, they were living in a motorhome, and the suspect found out the victim had sex with someone else. He punched a hole in a wall, broke her phone and kept her from leaving. He pushed her into a bathtub and choked her. She bit and kicked him and escaped.
At a therapeutic horse-riding business the victim told a friend they were in love and someday would marry. The owner of the business reported it to law enforcement. The mom visited the home and found romantic notes. The victim asked her not to turn the suspect in because, “I love him.” Other notes said she’s never going to find anyone better than him, and she’s useless without him.
Man faces 5 charges
A 23-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court May 20 arrested on a warrant and facing five charges with bail set at $150,000.
Four charges are for second-degree identity theft and possession of a controlled substance. Each carries a sentence of up to five years in prison and $5,000 fine.
Court papers say Kitsap deputies started responding to vehicle prowls for two weeks starting Jan. 7, 2021. The same suspect was seen in video each time. He had stolen wallets and various possessions. Officials made an identification and arrested him 11 days later. The vehicle was one he had used in the thefts, and he was wearing clothes seen in some of the video. There were at least ID cards in the center console. Items that had been listed as stolen were in the vehicle. Suspected meth, heroin and other drugs and paraphernalia also were found.
Fight over son
A 23-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court May 20 facing three charges.
Bail was $150,000. He faces a total of seven years in prison and $15,000 in fines. He’s charged with reckless endangerment, violating a court order, felony assault.
Court papers say Bremerton police responded Feb. 17, 2023 at 4:57 p.m. to the 4300 block of Wheaton Way. A man and woman had protection orders against each other. But she went to a gas station so he could see the child. But he dove through an open window and grabbed his 9-month-old son. During the incident the woman was elbowed in the face about 10 times, causing injuries. The suspect went into a field, and the woman followed. The suspect bit the woman in the head, but she was able to grab the child.
Construction burglary
A 36-year-old Kingston man caught after a search in the woods was in Superior Court May 16 arrested on a warrant on second-degree burglary and possession of stolen property.
Bail was $150,000. He faces 15 years in prison and $30,000 in fines.
Court papers say Kitsap officers responded Aug. 17 of last year at 6:54 a.m. to the water tower at 8000 block of Little Boston Road NE. A man was seen carrying stolen items from a construction site into the woods. A woman in the vehicle was cooperative. When the man returned he fled into the woods into a ravine. A K9 was unavailable so officers searched for the suspect. A K9 arrived and searched. Stolen items were returned.
Car attack
A 50-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court May 20 charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
Bail was $130,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court papers say Bremerton police responded to the 100 block of Washington Avenue at 11:54 p.m. May 15. Dispatch said a car tried to run over a security guard in a parking garage. The security guard had seen the car before, and thought it was connected to some vehicle prowls there. The car had no plates and there was a hammer inside. The suspect jumped into the car when the guard said he was going to call police. The suspect drove around, and then pointed the car at the guard. “Guy tried to run me over with the car,” the guard said.
