Kenneth “Ken” King, 74, of Silverdale, WA, passed away February 25, 2024, is remembered for a life brimming with creativity, service, and an undying commitment to family. Born in Oklahoma City, Okla. to the late William King and Helen Lester, Ken leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Carole, brother James Rodgers, stepdaughters Nadine Allen (Mike) and Lenora “Charlie” Larson, and grandchildren Trevor, Nick, and Liza.

Ken was a military veteran, having served in the Navy aboard the USS Puffer and as a Coast Guard reservist, later dedicating years to law enforcement, culminating as Chief of Police for the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe. In 1989, he pivoted to a successful career with Watson Wood Furniture Systems Company, retiring in 2011.

A man of many talents, Ken was affectionately known as the neighborhood “MacGyver,” always ready with a clever solution for any problem. He and Carole turned a rugged wilderness into an enchanting woodland retreat, complete with trails, water features, family-built bridges, and a breathtaking Christmas display of 15,000 lights. Their home was a hub of love, creativity, and laughter.

Ken’s life was a rich tapestry of contrasts—whether dressed in one of his spiffy outfits or his favored socks and sandals, he embraced life with openness and authenticity. An avid movie buff, Ken’s extensive DVD collection was a testament to his love for storytelling and the power of cinema to evoke deep emotions and reflect on life’s greater narratives.

A gathering to celebrate Ken’s life will be held at 4 p.m., on May 4, 2024, following a Military Honor Service at 4 p.m. at VFW Post 239 in Bremerton, Wash. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to VFW Post 239.
