The Kitsap Humane Society’s 31st annual PetsWALK took place this weekend and raised more than its goal of $40,000.
Jessi Reynolds, the KHS events manager, said that participation was even better than pre-COVID levels, with 360 walkers. Each raised funds for KHS, with total receipts the best ever.
She said that with many in-kind donors, approximately 35 vendors, 60 KHS volunteers, and 20 KHS staff, the PetsWALK was a success.
Amy Wise has only been a volunteer for six months and was part of the crew checking in walkers at the registration table. She recently moved into the community, with the Navy, and thought that volunteering would be a great way to make connections in her new home. John and Michele Burk were enjoying their fourth tour as volunteers for the event. They were managing foot traffic and directing walkers to services.
Walkers too ran the gamut from neighbors to tourists. Landrie Wren volunteered last year, but was a walker this year, with her corgi Koda. Miss Poulsbo, Catherine French participated too, along with Miss Silverdale Kai Joseph and a previous Miss Kitsap, Stephanie Ryder.
Other folks, like Hanson Pitts, and his wife Bree, along with their dogs Poppy and Pete, made the journey all the way from Maple Valley.
At the end of the walk (either 1 mile or the more popular 5K), participants received complimentary goodies. Who doesn’t like a puppaccino after a good walk?
