POULSBO — A physician assistant was being treated for a possible head injury after a car crashed into his office at The Doctors Clinic on 7th Avenue in Poulsbo, about 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 25.
The driver of a Subaru Forester — identified later by authorities as a 72-year-old Bainbridge Island woman — arrived for an appointment and was pulling into a parking space when her car accelerated, crashing into the building, clinic manager Jessica Landis said. The driver put her car in reverse and accelerated over a landscaped berm, knocking a tree down and crashing into a parked Dodge Ram 3500.
A Poulsbo woman said clinic staff members walked the driver into the clinic, where she was being checked by Poulsbo Fire Department EMTs. She was reportedly OK.
Landis said the physician assistant was in his office when the crash occurred, shattering the office’s windows and pushing the wall in.
“We heard a crash, bang,” Landis said. “The PA rushed out with his hand on his head.”
The Poulsbo woman who saw staff members walk the driver into the building said she was in an adjacent office being seen by a nurse when the crash occurred. “We heard a very loud crash,” she said. “We knew someone hit the building. It was amazing.”
Another Poulsbo resident, in the waiting room for an appointment, said she “felt the building shake” from the impact.
“I work in the medical field,” she said. “I thought maybe an autoclave fell on the floor.” An autoclave is a pressure chamber used to sterilize equipment.
There were reportedly no other injuries. The Ram 3500 pickup truck was reportedly unoccupied at the time of the crash.
Due to structural damage from the crash, a section of the building is closed until repairs are made, according to a press release from the Poulsbo Fire Department.
