Mike Tice did it all when it came to playing college and pro football, and now he’s doing it all helping youth.
The Mike Tice Foundation is putting on the 5th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament. For the third straight year, the event will be July 14-15 at the White Horse Golf Club in Kingston. Proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound. Funds in the past have paid for school-year programs and covered costs to provide local families with free membership at the Bremerton club and North Mason Teen Center.
Among those scheduled to play this year are: former Sonic Jack Sikma; former Seahawks Steve Largent, Jim Zorn, Mack Strong, Paul Moyer, Norm Johnson and Dave Wyman; former Steeler Rod Woodson; former baseball great John Olerud; former Mariner Bret Boone; former Huskies star Paul Skansi; and ex-Cougar standout Mike Levenseller.
Cost of a foursome is $3,000; they get to play with a celebrity in a scramble format that includes a breakfast bar; food and beverages on the course; golf cap, balls and swag. There also will be a raffle; closest to the pin prizes; prizes for top scores; $500 Home Depot gift cards; and a hole-in-one grand prize from Haselwod Auto Group. A happy hour and dinner-auction will take place from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Tables are $1,200 for four people or $2,000 for eight.
Tice played quarterback at the University of Marysville then played tight end in the NFL for the Seahawks, now-Washington Commanders and Minnesota Vikings. He also coached for 22 years, four as head coach of the Vikings. He also coached for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders. His career record was 32-33, 1-1 in the playoffs. Tice, now 65, was a 6-foot-7, 250-pound mostly blocking tight end, with only 107 catches for 894 yards and 11 touchdowns in his 11-year career.

It’s a privilege to see the direct impact our foundation has on the lives of these young individuals. We believe every child deserves a chance to succeed, and through our partnership, we’re making that a reality for many.”
His foundation partners with charitable organizations and causes that support youth programs in five states (BGCSPS and BGC Thurston County in Washington State; BGC of Western Nevada; and the Twin Cities Fire Department in Minnesota to provide winter coats to kids. It also donates to multiple scholarship programs in New York and Washington states, including Tice’s hometown of Central Islip, N.Y. This year, the foundation added the Southside Early Childhood Center in St. Louis, MO.
Last year, the foundation donated $160,000 to 12 charities in five states.
BGC of South Puget Sound is a leader in youth development to help kids and teens reach their full potential. It provides safe places, caring mentors and high-impact out-of-school programming throughout the year.
