POULSBO — The driver of a truck sustained minor injuries in a rollover vehicle crash July 7 on Highway 305, near Sandy Hook Road.
The crash, which occurred around 2 p.m., involved only one vehicle and resulted in the truck spinning around and rolling over. The driver, unidentified at this time, was alone in the truck, which was hauling an attached trailer filled with wood.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Fletcher, who declined to give his first name, said the crash was still being investigated, but that the trailer might have been a contributing factor.
“It looks like that, because of either the load that was placed on the trailer or the fact that the load was too heavy, and that there aren’t any brakes on the trailer, that the driver lost control and was unable to regain control of the vehicle,” Fletcher said, “because they only had brakes on the power unit, not the trailer, and it just pushed him right into the ditch.”
Suquamish Police and Poulsbo Fire Department also went to the scene.
The driver was treated at the scene by emergency responders and released, but an unidentified worker helping to move the fallen wood said the driver planned to see a doctor because he’d been complaining about pain in his kidneys.
Fletcher said that there will “most likely” be citations at the close of the investigation.
“Right now, it’s either speed too fast for the conditions, because of the configuration of the vehicle, (or) there might be more, based on what we learn from weighing the vehicle and the load,” Fletcher said.
Fletcher said they were waiting for the arrival of another commercial-vehicle trooper in order to weigh the load of wood and “determine whether or not lack of brakes is a factor.”
