Bainbridge Performing Arts will present the Tony Award-winning musical Urinetown, a biting satire with a mix of comedy and social commentary, Oct. 11-27.

Urinetown will leave audiences laughing, thinking and possibly a little grossed out—but in the best way, a BPA news release says.

Directed by Jaylin Green, Urinetown tells the story of a dystopian future where water is scarce, and a tyrannical corporation controls public toilets. The show hilariously tackles serious themes like corporate greed, environmental disaster and social justice. “I think people are going to laugh a lot and maybe be a little horrified at the same time, but they’re going to love it,” Green said.

Sebastian Hulburt delivers a laugh-out-loud portrayal of Officer Lockstock, the story’s narrator with a dark sense of humor. Sydney Swalberg brings a spark of rebellious curiosity to Little Sally, while Anden J. Leo shines as Bobby Strong, the charismatic leader of the revolution. Rachel Brinn plays the tough-as-nails Penelope Pennywise, and Jessica Robins commands the stage as the heartless corporate overlord Caldwell B. Cladwell.

Music director Will Sanders praised the score, saying, “The music is where Urinetown really shines. You think it’s going to be silly, but good comedy knows when to take itself seriously, and some of these songs are really powerful.”

Bainbridge Prepares will have a presence in the lobby during select performances to share information about its work in disaster preparedness and community resilience.

Tickets are on sale now at bainbridgeperformingarts.org/urinetown. The play runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
