We all know everything seems to be getting more expensive.

Do you sometimes wish you could have something fixed or you could fix it, rather than adding to the landfill and having to buy something new?

Fix-it Fairs may be just for you. There will be one Oct. 12 in Poulsbo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and another Nov. 2 in Kingston from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Kitsap Regional Library in each town.

Fix-it Fairs are free community gatherings where you can get broken belongings repaired by local volunteer fixers with a variety of skills and knowledge. Repairs are first-come, first-served. Upon arrival, participants will check-in, sign a waiver, and wait to be called to a fixer station. There, you’ll watch, learn and help the fixer repair your item. Volunteer fixers also are are needed.

Generally, fixers can repair mendable clothing and textiles, small home appliances, lamps, vacuums, jewelry and small electronics. Volunteers will do their best to make repairs but there are no guarantees. Kitsap residents are welcome to bring two items. If there are more participants than fixers, the limit may be one.

Also, the Poulsbo and Kingston libraries will have a display of Fix-it Fair books available for borrowing.
