Wolfle Elementary in Kingston will be getting new playground equipment following approval of the North Kitsap School District directors at their Oct. 24 meeting.
The existing equipment could not be salvaged and had to be demolished to make room for the new gymnasium project, which recently broke ground. The playground costs about $95,000 and will be funded by the 2022 capital levy, per NKSD documents.
While technically part of the gym project, the playground was not completely designed in time to be included in the bid package. The project will include a paved, oval trike track as well as accessible playground equipment. The playground will be completed with the new gym and will be available for use in winter of 2025.
Also, two aged portables will be demolished at Kingston Middle School this winter as part of NKSD’s efforts to eliminate portables at all schools. The cost of the project is $10,000 and is also funded by that 2022 levy. The project will consist of a hazardous material survey, removal of fire and security alarms, bell and paging, removal of both portables along with soil preparation and planting of grass, NKSD documents state.
The contractor will start the project after Dec. 17 and is expected to be complete by Jan. 31, 2025.
