I’m writing as a parent and as president of the North Kitsap Schools Foundation, a nonprofit devoted to promoting and helping fund the best possible learning opportunities for all students in the North Kitsap School District. We believe strong schools equal strong communities.
Times are tough for our students. During the past few years, the Washington Legislature has cut billions from public education and North Kitsap schools have had to cope by increasing class sizes, cutting librarians and counselors, and reducing or eliminating programs for kids who need extra help.
We have an excellent school district, but these unprecedented cuts are threatening our kids’ futures. That’s why the North Kitsap Schools Foundation has pledged to raise $75,000 or more this school year to help elementary students who are struggling and those who need additional challenges through programs such as:
– Before, during and after school math and reading programs that provide expanded learning for students who need extra help, and enrichment opportunities for students seeking new challenges.
– After-school clubs for students in areas such as arts, science and foreign languages. – Family nights that focus on the areas of math and reading.
Together, we can build a strong foundation for our kids, our schools and our community. I encourage you to support our schools by making a tax-deductible donation at www.nkschoolsfoundation.org. On behalf of the North Kitsap Schools Foundation Board, thank you for your support.
