Slap over dog not proportional to gun

Kitsap County court cases

Bail was set at $500,000 in Kitsap County Superior Court Dec. 23 for a 64-year-old Port Orchard man charged with assault with a deadly weapon for pulling a gun on a man after he was slapped.

He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court records say Port Orchard police responded to the 500 block of South Street Dec. 21 at 4:14 p.m. The victim said the suspect pulled a gun and said he would shoot him. The suspect was frisked by police, and he had a .38 revolver on him.

He said the argument was over his dog. The suspect said the victim was trespassing on his property feeding his dogs things to kill it. The victim called the suspect a terrible person because his dog was always outside. The victim slapped the suspect, who then pulled his gun. The suspect was arrested because a firearm is not proportional or reasonable compared with a slap.

He faces second-degree assault (10 years, $20,000 fine maximum); and two counts of assault (1 year $5,000 each). Bail was $250,000.

Court documents show Kitsap deputies responded to an assault at 12:35 a.m. in the 11500 block of Baneberry Avenue SE in Ollalla. A man was upset he was asked to leave so he punched some people in the face and hit a woman over the head with a metal chair. That neighbor hadn’t been allowed in the house for some time due to drug use.

He showed up anyway at a party there, and was asked to leave because he was “acting out and being crazy” after drinking. He eventually was thrown down to the pavement in the driveway, and his father picked him up and took him home. The victim’s father used to be a Navy corpsman so he stapled the victim’s wound to bind it. The suspect said he didn’t hit anyone, but they hit him trying to get him to leave. The suspect’s father said he drove his son around to try to cool him off, but wouldn’t let him out of the car, so the suspect broke the passenger window.

to elude Bremerton police

An 18-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court Dec. 18 charged with attempting to elude.

Bail was $50,000. He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Court documents show Bremerton police responded Dec. 17 at 7:30 a.m. to 1st Street and Wycoff. An officer tried to pull a car over that had a headlight out and expired tabs. The car had room to pull over, but did not. After making a few turns the car accelerated and went through a stop sign.

The officer stopped the chase for safety reasons, but as he continued on he saw the car parked at the side of the road unoccupied. Another officer nearby saw two men coming out of a trail near Forest Ridge Park. One was the owner of the vehicle and was detained. The suspect said he did not like how he was stopped because the officer “California Rolled” him, referring to his “rolling stop.”

Another case of

attempting to elude

A 36-year-old Tracyton man was in Superior Court Dec. 23 charged with attempting to elude and reckless driving after being arrested on a warrant.

He faces six years in prison and $15,000 in fines.

Court documents state that Kitsap deputies responded in late October to the 1500 block of NE Fairgrounds Road. A car was parked at some gas pumps with the driver slumped over and a passenger in the back seat wearing a masquerade mask.

The driver took off, cutting across all lanes into oncoming traffic then back on southbound Highway 303. The chase was stopped due to safety concerns. There was a warrant out for his arrest. His girlfriend in the back was wanted for identity theft. The deputy found out the suspect has an extensive history of running from law enforcement.

Warrant arrest for

home burglary

A 51-year-old Belfair man was in Superior Court Dec. 26 arrested on a warrant from May for residential burglary.

He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court records say Bremerton police responded April 30 at 8:19 a.m. to the 1100 block of Rainier Avenue. Smoke was coming from an empty home. A nearby home also involved in a house fire has had issues with transients trespassing. The owner was staying at an Airbnb due to the fires. Police received the OK to go into the home when the trespasser would not come out.

After the arrest it was noticed by police the house was in disarray. The man said he was doing repairs for the owner. He then said he was doing yard work, but the rake broke. Both were lies, the owner of the homes said. There was evidence of drug use and bolt cutters were used to strip copper wire, which is often sold to scrap yards for drug money.
