I have read very few articles regarding the different options being considered to correct the congestion problem of State Route 302.
You can make some of the people happy some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. I truly understand that.
However, to push the Key Peninsula problems onto someone else is selfishness.
One of the routes being considered is rerouting SR-302 via Bethel-Burley/Pine Road/118th is doing exactly that.
This is a Key Peninsula problem and they should be looking at options in their own backyard and not those that would take them five-plus miles out of their way and make it someone else’s problem.
They chose to live on the Key Peninsula, knowing about the issues surrounding 302.
Those of us who live in the Burley/Port Orchard area chose to live here so we could have property.
This route would take away our backyards and our front yards, adversely affecting our lives and livelihoods.
Not to mention, it would make it difficulty for us to get to and from our homes.
I’ve heard that some think WSDOT had done a great job collecting information from the public’s input. I feel there was not enough public input.
People in my area never got notification of the routes being considered. Our notification was the doing of a very concerned neighbor who went around and placed flyers in mailboxes.
I truly hope WSDOT will do what is right when it comes to fixing the Key Peninsula’s problem and not make it the problem of the Burley/Port Orchard area.
