December 16
1:22 p.m.
Arrested on his way to court
• An officer patroling near the Kitsap County Courthouse was passed by a vehicle whose stereo was blaring at levels exceeding the city noise ordinance. When the driver was confronted about it, he presented a driver’s license with a hole punched in it. A search revealed his license had been suspended. The suspect said he was on his way to Drug Court at the time and couldn’t find anyone to drive him. He was arrested at the scene for driving with a suspended license.
December 17
11:21 a.m.
Truck does damage in tight space
• Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Sherman Avenue to investigate a report of damage to public property.
On arrival, they noted that three plastic Carson boxes used to house parking meters had been destroyed, in addition to the concrete bullard used to protect a fire hydrant.
City Public Works employees suspected the damage had been done by a semi-trailer parked nearby while delivering furniture. The driver of the truck was questioned and he admitted damaging the Carson boxes while trying to negotiate the narrow street but denied crushing the concrete bullard.
Officers, however, discovered paint from the bullard on the truck’s tow hook and concluded it had contacted with the concrete structure. The case was referred to the Prosecutor’s Office to determine damages.
6:06 p.m.
Assault with a vacuum cleaner
• Two officers responded to a reported domestic assault on Sage Street. They questioned a woman who said her husband had complained about the food she had made for dinner and thrown it on the floor.
When she told him to clean it up, he shoved her against the wall, grabbed a vacuum cleaner and threatened to hit her with it.
Although he swung it in her direction, she wasn’t hit. The husband was arrested at the scene.
December 18
2:01 p.m.
Stolen medications recovered
• A passer by reported finding three medication bottles at the intersection of High Street and Hull Avenue. After checking the names on the bottles, they contacted the owner who said her car had been ransacked two days earlier with the thieves making off with the medicine and a Nikon camera.
3:32 p.m.
Witness helps solve hit-and-run
• An employee at the Shari’s restaurant on Bravo Terrace called to report a hit and run on her car, which was parked in the parking lot while she was at work.
A customer saw the accident and wrote down the suspect vehicle’s license number. Police contacted the owner of the vehicle, who said he hadn’t driven it that day. But he asked a friend whether he’d driven it to the Shari’s and the friend admitted he had.
He agreed to take care of the damages.
6:20 p.m.
Sailor gets rude welcome home
• A sailor returning home from a week-long shakedown cruise aboard the USS John Stennis reported discovering his Arbor Terrace apartment had been burglarized.
The thieves made off with his laptop computer and removed an LCD TV from the wall. Officers filled out a report for insurance purposes.
