Wording on the EMS levy seems deceptive to me

I just opened my ballot, which has the levy issue on it for the Emergency Medical Services for South Kitsap Fire and Rescue.

I believe that the wording on the ballot is deceptive and I have a hard time believing it wasn’t meant to be.

We’re currently paying 32 cents per $1,000 for emergency medical services.

The ballot issue states, “Shall South Kitsap Fire and Rescue be authorized to continue to impose regular property tax levies of 50 cents or less per thousand dollars…”

I have no problem with a continued levy at 32 cents per $1,000, but that is not what the voter will envision when reading the ballot, if that voter hasn’t been following the issue in the papers.

Our Legislature passes all kinds of legislation that allows local governments to raise money via fees and taxes.

I now see that deceptive wording must also be one of the preferred ways to seek an increase in taxes.
