BREMERTON — WSU Kitsap Extension and Washington Tractor are teaming up to teach all aspects of farm machinery and farm safety Mondays and Wednesdays, April 29 to May 29, 6-8 p.m., at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Sheep Barn.
The Farm Machinery Safety Workshop is designed for beginning and more experienced farmers and youth ages 14 and older. The workshop will cover tractor component and operation basics, safe operation technique, general farm and ranch hazards, as well as skills testing.
Using training materials specifically designed to meet current safety training requirements contained in the Agricultural Hazardous Occupations Order, this training also meets the needs of migrant or seasonal farm workers.
“Although today’s tractors are the safest ever, studies indicate that the tractor is the machine most often involved in agriculture-related accidents,” according to Arno Bergstrom, director of WSU Kitsap Extension. “Our goal in offering this workshop in Kitsap is to keep our farmers safe.”
Cost for the series is $50 per person. Scholarships are available for 4-H and FFA youth. To register, go to the WSU Kitsap Extension website at http://kitsap.wsu.edu/.
