Each year, the Fourth of July holiday brings fireworks.
Residents in Port Orchard and South Kitsap county can enjoy the Fathoms o’Fun’s annual Grand Fireworks Show set for Thursday, July 4, starting at 10:30 p.m. on the Sinclair Inlet View.
The event, sponsored by Wave Broadband, will be visible from Bremerton, the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and the Port Orchard area.
There will also be afternoon and evening entertainment at the Port Orchard Waterfront Marina Park gazebo. Various groups will play Christian rock from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Denim Skillet will perform classic rock music from 5:30 to 7 p.m., followed with more classic rock by Common Ground from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.
According to state law, fireworks can only be sold from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday, June 28, and from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. from June 29 to July 4. On July 5, fireworks can be sold from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The City of Port Orchard will follow state laws on sales, but fireworks can be discharged from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 4.
According to the Kitsap County Fire Marshal’s Office, fireworks can be discharged during the same 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. period.
In unincorporated Kitsap County, sales of fireworks can begin at noon on June 28 and continue through 10 p.m. on July 4. Fireworks stands must close at 11 p.m. each night through July 3 and can open each day at 9 a.m.
To legally purchase fireworks, a person must be age 16 with a photo ID.
Fireworks classified as firecrackers, sky rockets, missile-type rockers, salutes, chasers, M-80s, larger cherry bombs, tennis ball bombs and any legal fireworks that have been altered are prohibited from sale.
Fines can range up to $1,000 and jail time.
State law allows consumers to discharge fireworks from noon to 11 p.m. on June 28, and from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 29 to July 3. On July 4, fireworks can be set off between 9 a.m. and midnight and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 5.
County and cities throughout the state have adopted various times and dates for selling and discharging fireworks.
State or county laws of fireworks sales and discharging do not apply to tribal lands.
