A Port Orchard man with prior murder convictions led police on a chase along Washington Avenue Jan. 15 after intruding into homes while reportedly high on methamphetamine.

Police were called to the 600 block of Washington Avenue at 12:09 p.m. after residents reported a man walking into their apartment, high on methamphetamine, claiming to own the apartment building, according to Bremerton police reports. At about 12:14 p.m., officers saw the 43-year-old man described walking down the front porch stairs of a Washington Avenue residence. When police contacted him, he ran from the scene, falling over a wooden platform and jumping over a wrought iron fence into someone’s back yard.

Police searched the area and found the man laying behind a bulkhead on the lower part of the terraced yard. He resisted arrest and was struck by a Taser while officers tried to detain him.

A search of the suspect yielded exposed syringes in his pants pockets and a digital scale in his backpack.

The man is on probation for a second-degree murder conviction and was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in Pasco in 1986.

He was taken to Kitsap County jail for investigation of two counts of residential burglary and one count of attempted residential burglary. Harassment charges were added after he threatened to kill a Bremerton police officer at the jail.
