Bomb squad shuts down Bremerton ferry terminal

A suspicious tool box has led to the closure of the Bremerton Transportation Center and ferry terminal.

UPDATE: Bremerton Police Department officials say that following a series of x-rays by the state patrol on a suspicious tool box, officers have given the “all clear” for activity to return to normal in and around the ferry terminal.

A suspicious tool box has led to the closure of the Bremerton Transportation Center and ferry terminal.

Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan said that tool box was found underneath the staircase leading from the ferry terminal to the boardwalk, between the patio at Anthony’s Restaurant and the eastern edge of the terminal building.

A Washington State Patrol bomb squad is on the scene and Strachan said they could wrap up their work within the next 15 to 20 minutes. Nonetheless, the 1:45 p.m. sailing from Bremerton and the 1:30 p.m. sailing from Seattle have been delayed.

The area has been roped off, vehicles have been kept off the car deck and the incoming boat is holding its position in the bay until the situation is resolved, Strachan said.
