I like the format, light fairly uncluttered, news in the middle, framed by ads that keep you employed and us able to view the news for free. It has a combined modern, yet traditional view. Who ever designed the format should be commended.
I use the Port Orchard Independent to get local news. I grew up in the area and it will always be home. At the same time I have wandered the world and still like to see how Port Orchard is doing.
I miss the Fathoms o’ Fun and in the old days the dingy derby. The July 4th carnival was a great time. The marina and downtown Port Orchard and the foot ferry is etched in my memory.
Memories of the parades and even some I participated in, always warms my heart. Growing up near what was then Prices Dairy, then the Kallstrom Farm and Blackjack Dairy is an experience many can never have.
Riding our bikes to talk to Mr. Mullenix as kids just so we could listen to him tell us stories about “the old days” for hours is something that would not happen in today’s society. And graduating from East Port Orchard Elementary, Marcus Whitman Junior High and South Kitsap High School, they had a great impact on me to this day.
Thanks for letting me stay connected to good old Port Orchard.
Thank you for your great web site and for letting me peek back in to Port Orchard and the local area.
