NEW CLUB OFFICERS

Soroptimist International of Greater Bremerton Area, an organization working to improve the lives of women and girls, recently selected the following club officers for the 2009-10 year:

Deborah Horn, president; Jackie Fojtik, president-elect; Wanda Moore, recording secretary; Kassie Korich, corresponding secretary; Janelle Cain, treasurer; Jenny Elliott, assistant treasurer; Fawn Langdon, director; Cristen Nolan, director; and Mourine “Mo” Anduiza, past-president.

PLANNING COMMISSIONER SELECTED

The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners have appointed Michael Brown to serve as planning commissioner for District 3 for the Department of Community Development.

Brown, a local field agent for Farmers Insurance, brings myriad volunteer, community and professional experience to his new position. He has served as a past board member for United Way, March of Dimes, the Boy Scouts of America, the Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Salvation Army. In addition, he has more than three decades of volunteer work in Kitsap County for several nonprofit groups including Relay For Life, MS Walk, CAPRI, United Way, Campfire USA, Rotary International, Salvation Army, Kitsap County Fair and Rodeo, Cystic Fibrosis, the Boy Scouts of America and many others.

Brown has worked as a consultant, insurance agent and manager in the private sector since retiring from a 25-year career with the Department of the Navy where he served as a nuclear engineer and project manager.

INTERVIEWS ON NOW

The Culinary Arts Program of Olympic College is interviewing students interested in a career in culinary arts and hospitality management for the upcoming 2009 fall quarter, which begins Monday, Sept. 21, 2009.

Certified chefs with extensive industry experience teach the nationally accredited program. The curriculum includes catering and banquets, international cuisine, fine dining, serv safe, and baking for restaurants and institutions.
