POULSBO — State Sen. Christine Rolfes, appointed last year to complete the term vacated by Phil Rockefeller, won a four-year term Tuesday.

A Democrat, Rolfes formerly represented the 23rd District in the state House of Representatives. Her opponent in the Senate race, Republican Bret Treadwell, dropped out of the race past the deadline to get his name removed from the ballot, but didn’t campaign.

Tuesday as of 8:10 p.m., Rolfes had 26,793 votes to Treadwell’s 15,017. The Kitsap County Auditor Elections Office estimated there are 40,000 more ballots to count. The election results will be updated Wednesday by 5 p.m.

In the 6th Congressional District, state Sen. Derek Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, was leading Bill Driscoll, a Republican and timber company executive, 99,625 votes to 69,283.

In the 1st Congressional District, Democrat Suzan DelBene was leading Republican John Koster 69,559 votes to 43,418 for the right to complete the one month remaining in Jay Inslee’s term. Inslee resigned to run for governor.

DelBene also leads Koster 58,353 votes to 48,281 votes for the two-year term that begins in January.

DelBene is a former director of the state Department of Revenue. Koster is a member of the Snohomish County Council.

Much of Kitsap County, including North Kitsap, is in the 1st Congressional District until Jan. 3, when it becomes part of the 6th District because of reapportionment. The 1st District’s boundaries will then encompass a swath of mainland Western Washington.

That means, Kitsap will be briefly represented by DelBene, then by Kilmer.
