Due to success of the Health District’s online Food Worker Card classes, the need for in-person classes has been drastically reduced. As a result, the Health District will reduce the number of in-person Food Worker Card classes to one per week, beginning January 2. To work at a food establishment, food workers are required by the state to take a class and pass a test every two years to prove they have basic knowledge about food safety. This helps prevent people from getting sick when they eat at restaurants and other places that sell food.The online class allows food workers to take the class and test online and, when they pass the test, pay the $10 fee electronically by debit or credit card and print out their food worker card. The Health District implemented this online option in May of 2011.“With so many people taking advantage of the online class to obtain their food worker permit card,” said Keith Grellner, Director of Environmental Health, “we are able to reduce the number of in-person classes.
