Lost pet
Family is grateful for help in crisis
On Friday, July 11, our dog Maggie was hit by a car just off Pioneer Way and Canyon Road NW. We do not know who hit her but we are hoping that this letter reaches those who hit Maggie and nearby neighbors so that they know we are so thankful for them for trying to save her and for being there with her.
Most people just drive off when they hit an animal and ignore the situation all together. When my Dad arrived at the scene everyone was out of their cars praying over her and neighbors were bringing her blankets. One person even called an ambulance for her. Thank you so much for helping and staying with Maggie and for praying for her. It truly has made this whole ordeal easier knowing that even though she was hit by a car, that she wasn’t left alone to suffer.
Sadly, just a few hours later Maggie died of internal damage that could not be found or repaired in time. Words cannot explain the pain that my family has gone through in losing such a valued family member but we do thank you for doing all that you could considering the circumstances. It’s because of people like you that pets are sometimes saved in incidents such as this.
Thank you for trying to make a difference and for trying to save her. Although our family is still struggling with the loss we want to extend a thank you for doing what most people wouldn’t think of doing. It means so much to us and we hope that you are healing through the accident as well.

Fireworks on the Fjord
Donations made fireworks possible
“Fireworks on the Fjord” would like to thank the Suquamish Clearwater Casino and the Suquamish Tribe for their donation at the eleventh hour before the event. Thank you also to Mayor Kathryn Quade and the City Council for stepping forward at the last minute with an emergency donation. Other large sponsors that made the colorful fireworks shoot from the barge in the middle of beautiful Liberty Bay are Stone Chapel on Bond Road and North Kitsap Auto Rebuild on Viking Way just past the recycling center.
Thank you also to Donna Etchey for volunteering so much of her time. Donna is the best food contest person an event could have.
The contestants can’t wait until next year to see Donna dressed up with her patriotic accessories, counting distances of watermelon seeds and times for the Dairy Queen cakes and Domino’s pizza eating competition.
The fireworks display was great wasn’t it? Boaters have been heard saying that “Fireworks on the Fjord is to boaters what Sturgis is to motorcyclists.”
Thank you to Fred Hill Materials, Poulsbo Yacht club, Brad with Valley Nursery, Central Market, Dairy Queen, Albertsons, Dominos Pizza, DEF Productions, North Kitsap Rotary and Martha & Mary for your contributions. We are also extremely grateful for the 23 fabulous donations from private parties.
Other volunteers that we need to thank are Alta Nelson, Cliff Hurlbert, Bob Graves, Elaine Peterson, Teri Mathison, Tami Mathison, Amber Mathison, Lily Sewell, Aaron, Ryan and Kellan McLaughlin.
Thank you also to Diane Swayne and the Sons of Norway for helping the Symphony.
The Northwest Beach Boys air show, Harmony Madden, who sang “The Star Spangled Banner” A Capella, Commander Gary Helmick of the VFW District 4 Honor Guards and Mayor Kathryn Quade.
At the end of the night, 3-year-old Micah Schneider picked up so much garbage on the grass and his wonderful mom supported his endeavor.
Thank you, Micah, as every volunteer position is so extremely important.
See you next year!
