A Manette pit bull was Tasered twice Saturday before attacking a Bremerton police officer.

Police were called to a report of an animal bite at 1:34 p.m. in the 2200 block of Trenton Avenue. The caller reported a juvenile female was bitten on the left hand and scratched on her right shoulder by a pit bull in the neighborhood, according to police reports.

When police arrived, the dog, named Elvis, emerged from a neighbor’s bushes, growling. Animal Control and police backed the dog into a partially fenced backyard, but when the dog approached an officer, growling, the officer used a Taser on the dog, who ran down the street and broke the Taser lines.

The dog was found behind a shed in the 2800 block of Holman Street, where officers failed to loop the dog with a pole. After the dog was Tasered a second time, he charged an officer, biting her hands and forearms.

The dog was later found in his home on Trenton Avenue. The 26-year-old owner helped the dog into an Animal Control van when she arrived.

The bitten officer was taken to Harrison Medical Center.
