Today is the last day to sign up for the NK lacrosse summer camps. There are two camps for boys and girls entering third through 12th grade.

The camps cover the strategies and skills of lacrosse. They’re open to all, regardless of residency. Both camps run June 23-27 with future third through eighth-graders going from 9 a.m. to noon and future ninth through 12th-graders going from 4-7 p.m. The camps are at Wolfle Elementary School off Highway 104 in Kingston.

Registration is through Poulsbo Parks and Recreation, located in the Community Recreation Center building off Front Street in Poulsbo. The camp fee is $60. The girls’ refundable equipment fee is $80 (stick and goggles). The boys’ refundable equipment fee is dependent upon what is borrowed (stick, helmet, gloves, pads). Girls’ youth and women’s summer lacrosse

League sign up deadline is June 21. The league runs on Wednesdays from June 25 to Aug. 13.The field is located at Wolfle Elementary School off Highway 104 in Kingston. The league is open to all regardless of residency. There are two sessions; the first is 5:30-6:30 p.m. for incoming third through eighth-graders. The second session is from 6:30-8 p.m. for players entering ninth grade and older. A skills clinic will run concurrently from 5:30-6:30 p.m. every week for new players wanting to try out the sport. Games are officiated. Registration is through Poulsbo Parks and Recreation, located in the Community Recreation Center building off Front Street in Poulsbo. eligibility information

If you’re transferring high schools, either from another district or from within North Kitsap School District, and intend to participate in athletics at the varsity level, you may need to appear before the West Central District Eligibility Committee, as the WIAA Amendment 18.10.0 goes into effect after Aug. 25.

WCD III Eligibility hearings begin after 3 p.m. at the Fife School District Admin Building on Aug. 20 and 27; and Sept, 3, 10 and 17 for fall sports eligibility. If a deadline is not met and an additional hearing date is requested, the cost of the hearing will be the responsibility of the athlete and his/her family.

NKSD Sports Physicals

Beginning with the 2008-09 school year, all sports physicals in North Kitsap School District will be valid for 24 consecutive months to the date unless otherwise limited when the physician indicates the physical is only good for less than 24 consecutive months.

All physicals received by NKSD secondary schools after June 1 will be valid for 24 consecutive months. Physicals received prior to that date will be valid for the 13-month timeframe, which was the existing physical examination policy as stated in the NKSD Athletic Handbook 2007-08.

2008-09 Athletic Department update

District Athletic Director: Trish Olson will be serving as the District Athletic Director for North Kitsap Athletic Programs, 7-12.

Youth football and cheerleading sign up today

North Kitsap area youths interested in participating in youth football or cheerleading this fall can sign up today in Kingston. An open registration will take place at Blue Wind Massage, across from the Farmer’s Market, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Blue Wind is located at 25925 Washington Boulevard, between Drifters Sports Bar and the Yacht Club. Online registration forms are also available at www.kingstonfootball.com and www.nkpeewees.org. The early registration fees, due by June 15, are $110 for contact football ages 7-14, $60 for flag football ages 5-6, and $55 for cheerleading. Games will be played in Poulsbo at Hamilton Field and at the new Kingston High School field.
