Port of Bremerton
SEED’s dead —
thank goodness
At last, the biggest boondoggle of the century has died — at least for now.
Port of Bremerton CEO Cary Bozeman had the insight and common sense to stop the port’s Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) project. He announced his decision at the Aug. 11 port meeting.
This project would have required a huge amount of public support in the form of higher property taxes. It would have been asking taxpayers to give mega-millions for a project that would be a never-ending public money pit just like the Bremerton Marina.
The port has already wasted millions of taxpayer dollars on SEED. Thank goodness this enormous pipe dream of Port Commissioner Bill Mahan has finally been put out of its misery.
A program such as SEED would have been fine if private enterprise and investors managed it.
As of last month, a stake has been driven through SEED’s heart. Let’s hope it stays in the grave where it belongs.
