LACEY, WASH. — Saint Martin’s University recently announced the Bremerton students who graduated May 9 with bachelor’s degrees: Melissa Cruz, biology; Jacqueline Martinez, elementary education; Carding Schlemmer, mechanical engineering; Lisa Sinnett, master’s degree, counseling psychology; and John Taylor, business administration.
ALBANY, N.Y. — Matthew Musselwhite of Bremerton recently graduated from Excelsior College with a bachelor’s degree.
BHS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Bremerton Schools Foundation will award $13,000 in student scholarships to Bremerton High School students for 2009.
The funds are provided from the Sumpter Endowment Fund, the Turnbull Endowment Fund and the Bremerton Alumni Endowment Fund. Committee members Margaret Kirk, Sharon Jackson, Marilee Hansen and Liana Baker interviewed students in April and will award the following students $1,000 each to continue their education: Brenden Stebor, Bethany Hansen, Megan Appleton, Crystal Truemper, Jihan Haji, Melissa Glazier, Tyna Ontko, Stefani Lubic, Allisa Leach, Courtney Wasserburger, Celine Torella, Jennifer Ford and Michael Gontinas.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
SALT LAKE CITY — Adrianne Sanchez of Bremerton has been awarded the Spouses to Teachers Scholarship from Western Governors University (WGU).
WGU offers more than 10 scholarships supported by a number of major corporations and foundations as well as special government appropriations.
During the 2008 fiscal year, WGU awarded 314 scholarships, which was a 249 percent increase over the previous year.
VOLUNTEERS, PROJECTS NEEDED
Volunteers and projects are needed for United Way of Kitsap County’s Day of Caring Wednesday, June 24.
The event kicks off at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds at 7:30 a.m. in the President’s Hall. As with years past, hundreds of volunteers will work on dozens of projects throughout Kitsap County.
New this year is online registration for volunteers and projects at www.volunteerkitsap.org. The deadline to register is June 10.
This year, the goal is to recruit at least 600 volunteers and 48 projects. Currently, 24 non-profit organizations have registered a project.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS SOUGHT
The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications from residents interested in applying to be considered for appointment to the Kitsap County Transportation Planning Advisory Committee.
The committee meets bi-monthly to review and comment on long-range transportation planning issues. Members actively participate in the development of specific transportation analysis and studies and make recommendations to the Kitsap County Transportation Planning Manager and staff regarding program direction and implementation. Citizens with an interest or experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, inter-governmental coordination and who are willing to function as part of an advisory team are encouraged to apply.
