A man that shot a Canadian border guard Tuesday at the Peace Arch border crossing in Blaine once lived in Bremerton.Canadian news agencies reported Wednesday morning the unidentified man shot himself on the Canadian side of the crossing and that the bullet then struck Lori Bowcock, the female border guard.

The white van the man was driving at the time of the shooting was registered to an address in Bremerton and agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement asked the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in their investigation.Deputy Scott Wilson, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said that detectives went to the home in the 5000 block of Sixth Street in Bremerton, near the Forest Lawn Cemetery, and determined that the deceased man no longer lived there.

“Once they determined that the person moved to King County, in Seattle I believe, our participation was done,” Wilson said.Bowcock was in stable condition at a hospital in British Columbia on Wednesday.The shooting occurred at about 2 p.m. Tuesday and the crossing remained closed throughout Wednesday morning.
