The victim of a fatality car crash in North Kitsap on Friday has been identified as a Port Orchard resident.
Seventy-four-year-old Shirley J. Kimball was killed when the vehicle driven by her husband failed to stop for the stop sign at the “T” intersection of NW Pioneer Hill Road with Pioneer Way NW, and continued across the intersection leaving some 70 feet of skid marks.
The vehicle’s momentum carried it off the west side shoulder of Pioneer Way NW and down an embankment into brush and trees.
The Chevrolet sedan stuck a large tree causing the vehicle to overturn. The car was found upside down, on its top, by arriving firefighters.
The Kitsap County Coroner will determine the cause and manner of death.
It does not appear that alcohol or narcotics were a contributing factor in the crash.
“It was just a case of going too fast for the conditions,” said Kitsap Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson. “The driver was going a little too fast and didn’t realize there was a stop sign at the bottom of that hill.”
Both occupants were utilizing seatbelts.
No other vehicles or persons were involved.
