Over the past several months, the South Kitsap Community pool has undergone a significant facelift that will improve both safety and aesthetics.

The pool reopened Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The pool floor and walls were resurfaced with a white thermoplastic lining that makes it easier for pool staff to observe swimmers in the water. Repairs were also made to the moveable wall, and the valves and piping in the filter pit area were restored to their original operating condition.

Also, the ceiling and interior walls of the building were repainted to help  improve the look and feel of the facility, and has enhanced light levels within the building.

The pool, originally opened in 1980, is one of a few pools with a 50-meter training facility in the state, It is unique because it has a hydraulically operated floor and wall system.

The pool can be configured to host 25-yard, 25-meter and 50-meter swim events.

The moveable floor allows the school district to vary the depth of the water to provide a safe instructional environment for swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
