POULSBO — Dick Meiser died Oct. 9 at Liberty Shores. He was 88.

Born in Chicago on Nov. 27, 1923 to George and Cecelia Meiser. Lost his hearing due to illness at age 7, became a master lip reader to the extent that most people could not tell he was deaf. He was an Eagle Scout with five palms, played water polo, won the Chicago city diving championship in his teens.

Married Lorrie in Chicago in 1951. In 1970, the family moved to Poulsbo.

Lived in Lofall and Miller Bay before settling in Bella Vista on Hood Canal. Retired at 55 from civil service at Bangor Sub Base, worked at Honeywell in Poulsbo for five years. Enjoyed working in the yard, salmon fishing, traveling with Lorrie and tinkering in his workshop.

An early pioneer in the sport of bowhunting. Taught archery at various venues, started a home-based archery business with his brother, George.

He is survived by his children, Barbara (Ed), Gary (Sharon), Janet (Chris), and Amy; grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Ryan, Kaitlin, Alex and Zachary. He is also survived by his sister, Janemarie of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cecelia; his wife, Lorrie; and his brother, George.

A celebration of Dick’s life is planned at Kitsap State Park Nov. 11, 1-5 p.m.
