A Sunnyslope home sustained significant smoke damage during the morning of April 27.
South Kitsap Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jon Gudmundsen reported that firefighters from his department and Bremerton arrived just before 7 a.m. to find a structure fire. The first arriving crew found smoke coming from the residence and three people that escaped the fire. All three residents suffered smoke inhalation and one was transported to an area hospital for further evaluation.
One of the residents contained the fire to one room through the use of a garden hose before the fire crews extinguished it, according to Gudmundsen.
He reported that the fire, which resulted in extensive smoke damage inside the home and to the owners’ personal belongings, was believed to be electrical, but noted that the Kitsap County Fire Marshall’s Office will continue to investigate it.
South Kitsap Fire and Rescue’s chaplain also was requested to assist the occupants and connect them with the Red Cross for temporary housing and other needs.
