Chorale rehearsals

Nursing exhibit

Photographer exhibit

The Sidney Gallery’s September show will feature photographer Beverly Hanson and her exhibit “Eclectic Journeys.” The show runs through Sept. 28. The Sidney Art Gallery and Museum, National and State Historic Site, located at 202 Sidney Ave., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1-4  p.m. on Sunday. POW/MIA Recognition Day

KEYPORT — Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport and the Naval Undersea Museum, Keyport, are partnering to commemorate POW/MIA Recognition Day on Friday, Sept. 20. The public is invited to attend and base access is not required. The national theme for this year’s observance is “Keeping the Promise.” Capt. David K. Kohnke, Commander, NUWC Keyport, will serve as master of ceremony at the event which will run from 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. at the Naval Undersea Museum, Keyport. The commemoration will be highlighted by Navy divers from NUWC Keyport’s dive locker silently passing the American Flag just prior to the National Anthem being played by Navy Band Northwest. Blood drive

A blood drive is slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Bethany Lutheran Church fellowship hall. The event is sponsored by the Puget Sound Blood Center. Church drama

The Evergreen Performers will present the musical “The Kids of Bristol” Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 and 22 at Grace Bible Church, 7070 Bethel Burley Rd SE. Comedy show

Crater Lane Productions and the historic Dragonfly Cinema to bring stand-up comedain Leah Mansfield, a Los Angeles-based comedian and Port Orchard native, to headline the venue’s first stand up comedy show at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the theatre located at 822 Bay St. She will perform alongside well-known Seattle comics Patrick Higgins, Kevin Addison, Richard Sugarbush and emcee Kiera Giordan. Tickets are $10 and $18 each.

Community BBQ

Capital Christian Church will host a Community BBQ at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, in the Port Orchard Marina Park. Activities include a free dinner, live music, bounce house, boxing ring, face painting and more.

Driving class

A two-day safe driving class is set for Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 25 and 26, at the Port Orchard Eagles Hall, 4001 Jackson St. The classes, sponsored by AARP,  are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both day. The price is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. To sign up, call instructor Rita Greco at 360-895-3173. The classes are structure for people over age 50.

Spaghetti Ninner

POULSBO — An “Old Sicilian Spaghetti Dinner” fundraiser is set for Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 4-8 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 18824 3rd Ave. NE, Ste. 300. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $6 children age 3-10 and $50 for a family of six or more. Contact Chad or Jennifer Equatore at 360- 930-0021 for tickets which will be delivered to you or held at the door. There will be a dessert bar to raise additional money by donation to top off your delicious meal.Proceeds from the dinner will go into the David Williamson Fund at Columbia Bank. Donations can be made at any Columbia Bank branch to the account of David Williamson.

Dinner auction

SILVERDALE — Tickets are on sale now for Kitsap Humane Society’s 20th annual Animal Krackers dinner auction, slated for 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside. This year’s auctioneer will be Brady Hammerich of Stokes Auction House and the announcer will be Kristin Eddings, Miss Washington 2006.  Tickets may be purchased online at kitsap-humane.org/our-platinum-year-event or by calling Special Events Coordinator Rachel Bearbower at 360-692-6977 ext. 1216.

Chili cook-off and auction

The Fred Needham Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2669 is sponsoring a chili cook-off and auction from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. Samples are $1 per person and will also feature cornbread and dessert. The silent auction is 5-7 p.m. and the live auction begins at 7:30 p.m. There are five categories: spicy, traditional, non-traditional, cornbread and the “People’s Choice.” Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Art gallery exhibit

The Sidney Art Gallery will present in October the annual juried members-only exhibition by the South Kitsap Artists Association. The exhibition will feature a variety of art work including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, photography, pen and ink and mixed media from SKAA members including Roy Carr, Melba Moran, Jeanne Crider, Lavonne Smith, Elissa Whittleton, Ayvon Card, Charles Dick, Carolyn Yacobucci, Juanita Figueroa, Toni Nelson and others. Artist Beverly Pedersen will be this year’s judge and will present the ribbons and a critique of the show at the reception set from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6. The exhibit is open from Oct. 1 to Nov. 2.  Sidney Art Gallery and Museum, National and State Historic Site, 202 Sidney Ave., is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 1-4 p.m. For more information visit our web site atwww.sidneymuseumandarts.com.
