South Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighters extricated a 46-year-old Port Orchard woman from her vehicle after a rollover collision in Gorst on Jan. 19.

SKFR Battalion Chief Guy Dalrymple reported firefighters responded to the scene approximately 2 p.m. and found a 1986 Ford pickup on its roof near the intersection of State Highway 16 and Bay Street.

Dalrymple said when firefighters arrived, the female driver was conscious and alert, but unable to exit the truck. Her 21-year-old male passenger, also from Port Orchard, was able to get out of the truck.

He was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with only minor injuries.Firefighters dismantled the door and removed the woman from the vehicle. She was transported to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Dalrymple said the injuries did not appear life-threatening.“Both occupants were wearing their seat belts which certainly contributed to the minimal nature of their injuries,” he said.Washington State Patrol reported the pickup was westbound on Highway 16 when the driver attempted to change lane.

The truck hit the right front of a 1999 Honda Civic traveling in the adjacent lane, then spun 180 degrees and struck the highway’s barrier.

The Honda’s18-year-old driver was not injured.WSP reported all persons involved in the accident were wearing seat belts and that drugs or alcohol was a factor.

The truck’s driver was cited for making an unsafe lane change.The Department of Transportation reported the highway was reopen for traffic about 3:37 p.m.
