t Condition
of 10-year-old
injured last week now ‘satisfactory.’
A 10-year-old South Kitsap boy struck by an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) while sledding last week is recovering after being transported to Harborview Medical Center following the accident.
A spokeswoman at the hospital Wednesday said the boy was listed in satisfactory condition. He was listed in critical condition following the accident.
Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson said that the accident occurred around 12:45 a.m. Dec. 19 when the boy was sledding on Banner Road SE, headed northbound. The driver of the ATV was headed southbound on Banner, and just south of the intersection with Fragaria Road, the ATV collided with the sled, critically injuring the boy.
Wilson said the child suffered facial fractures and other trauma, and was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma before being moved to Harborview.
After the collision, the driver of the ATV reportedly fled on foot, but was identified by witnesses on scene. Deputies later contacted him at his residence in Olalla two hours after the collision and placed him under arrest for vehicular assault and hit and run with injury or death.
He was then booked into Kitsap County Jail under $50,000 bail. He made his initial appearance in Kitsap County Superior Court last week.
