Port Orchard voters will have three opportunities to meet city council in the next two weeks, with the meetings scheduled in the morning, noon and evening.

The Port Orchard Rotary will feature a debate between candidates Fred Chang and Amy Igloi-Matsuno at 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 6 at McCormick Woods.

The Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce will present all six candidates in a forum at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 at Blondie’s Restaurant.

All six are also confirmed for the League of Women Voters forum to be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 14 in the Port Orchard City Council Chambers.

While the settings differ, all three forums will feature a moderator and allow those attending to ask questions of the candidates — either directly or in writing.

Voter Services Chair Ann Smith is scheduled to moderate the LWV event, while County Assessor Jim Avery will moderate the Rotary and Greg Oldham moderates the Chamber.

The two contested races are Position 2, incumbent Carolyn Powers versus challenger Cindy Lucarelli, and Position 6, where incumbent Fred Chang faces challenger Amy Igloi-Matsuno.

Two incumbents, Position 3’s Rob Putaansuu and at-large Councilman Jerry Childs, are unopposed.

Childs has said he likes to participate in forums even though he is unopposed “because it gives me an opportunity to participate in the discussion.”

Of the three, the LWV event is the only one that is both open to the public and free of charge.

The others require that attendees pay a meal charge ($22 for the Chamber; $10 for Rotary) and make reservations (876-3505 for the Chamber; 337-7085 for Rotary).

The election will take place Nov. 3.

All ballots will be distributed by mail, and are to be distributed on Oct. 14.

Any registered voter who is expecting a ballot and does not receive one should call (360) 337-7128.
