U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island) recently announced $80,725 in funding for local Head Start programs in Kitsap County, made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The Suquamish Tribe’s Head Start program will receive $47,597 for program improvements and a cost-of-living allowance. The improvement funds will go toward a kindergarten transition program allowing Head Start students to attend summer school at Suquamish Elementary before entering kindergarten. Remaining funds will improve compensation for the Head Start staff.
Port Gamble’s S’Klallam Tribe’s Head Start program will receive $33,128 toward a cost-of-living allowance that for the program’s staff.
