Charlie Chaplin’s coming to life in silent film at the Lynwood Theatre.

For its next classics night, with shows at 4 and 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at 4569 Lynwood Center Rd. on Bainbridge, The Lynwood will be featuring “The Gold Rush,” a 1925 film described as the quintessential Charlie Chaplin flick.

But what should really bring the creative genius alive is the music behind the silent film, performed live at the Lynwood that night by Dennis James, on loan from Seattle’s Paramount Theatre where he is the house organist.

“There are several people who do silent film accompaniment, and I’ve heard quite a few, but nobody is as vivacious of a film scorer as (James) is,” said Lynwood manager TJ Faddis.

And as history has shown there’s also no one quite like Charlie Chaplin.

“The Gold Rush,” said to be the idol’s favorite self-production, features scenes people have likely seen before in retrospectives or even commercials, Faddis said, noting the shoe-eating dinner and dance of the dinner rolls. But here they will be in their original context.
