Coaches and athletes are finalizing their game plans and thinking big for the fall sports season, which begins next week.
So, too, is Kevin Mac.
The voice of the Internet Sports Network, or ISPN Sports, a 24-hour all-sports online broadcasting network dedicated solely to sports on the Kitsap Peninsula, Mac is primed for another successful season on the airwaves.
“We’re up in numbers from last year,” said Mac, who estimated the network brought in between 17,000 and 18,000 listeners during its first year.
A Kitsap County native, 1980 North Mason High School graduate and lifelong sports enthusiast, Mac has been the public address announcer for Olympic College sports for the past eight years and BlueJackets baseball for the past five.
The play-by-play man, who goes by “K-Mac” on the air, launched ISPN Sports in 2008.
“I wanted to give the community something it had never had,” Mac said.
He hosts the ISPN Sports Show live from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, interviewing coaches, athletes and local sports personalities. The Aug. 22 show featured Bremerton football coach Nate Gillam as well as the owner of Skateland, Jim Stevenson. The ISPN Sports Show is replayed daily Monday through Thursdays.
During the 2009 fall football season, Mac will provide a live broadcast of the “Game of the Week,” beginning Sept. 4 when Bremerton faces Klahowya at Silverdale Stadium.
Mac has a total of 15 high school football games on his live-broadcast schedule, all of which will be replayed at various times following the game.
He said he’s working on the guest lists for upcoming ISPN Sports Shows and hopes to bring in former Washington State University quarterback Jason Gesser.
