Lucarelli for Port Orchard City Council Position #5

Cindy Lucarelli not only deserves to be elected to the City Council this election, but Port Orchard would have gained a great deal and its citizens even better represented today if she had been elected in either of the last two “close call” races.
Cindy Lucarelli is a proven successful entrepreneur and business woman who has a passion for the City of Port Orchard. As a directing organizer of the incredibly successful Cedar Cove Days, Cindy was a driving force that made Port Orchard the destination city for so many Cedar Cove fans (yes tourists!) from all over the world. Just as important, Cindy is an active member of her city who has been at a majority of the City Council meetings for the 5 years that I’ve known her.
Cindy has proven to me in many ways that she is a fantastic asset to our city. We need her in a more active role as a City Council member where she can use her knowledge, vision and understanding to solve the city’s problems and put its inhabitants first! Just as an example, the current council voted in favor of the impending, over-sized, intrusive roundabout in our residential area (Tremont/Pottery) that that nobody wanted (not the citizens, police or fire department) but was voted to proceed with a 5 to 2 Council vote! Cindy on the City Council would certainly be a refreshing change.
We definitely need someone who will listen to us and Cindy Lucarelli has my vote!

Military family backs Miller in council election
To the editor:
Why should the people of Port Orchard vote for Amy Miller for City Council? Amy puts families first. She does this by supporting all families, including those of us in the Military, and by making the community a better place to live.
Amy Miller supports families by using her knowledge and networking abilities to link families to desired organizations, services and programs. We are a military family that moved to Port Orchard in 2009. Our family has Amy to thank for an easy transition into this community. She provided information on family-friendly community events, as well as local restaurants and businesses.
Amy is considered the “go to” person in our neighborhood. She has also been tremendously supportive during our family’s military deployments. Her roots in the community helped us meet other families in similar situations. Amy’s willingness to lend a hand is well known in our neighborhood and throughout the community.
Amy Miller’s service extends to the community at large. She has advocated for better parks, and has succeeded. She was the coordinator of the Port Orchard Daddy Daughter Dance. This is a huge community service project that fathers and daughters look forward to every year. Amy and her family are invested in the community. She is a supporter of the public schools and better city programs.
Why vote for Amy Miller? She will put you, your family and the community first. You will see commitment to positive community development.

Supporting United Way makes a real difference
To the editor:
As United Way gets ready to launch its 2011/2012 Campaign, we are faced with some very discouraging statistics. Everywhere we look we see the results of a less than stellar economy.
We see more and more people struggling to make ends meet, losing their jobs and even their homes, and more and more people turning to local agencies for food, help with their utility bills, and even for a safe, warm place to spend the night.
We’re pretty sure we don’t have to tell you what difficulties United Way and the health and human services network have had over the past three years trying to raise enough money to provide basic needs for the less fortunate in our community. With the loss of jobs donations fall, and with the federal, state and local governments facing severe budget crises of their own, we can no longer rely on them to fill the void.
Our only option is to return to the times when communities pulled together and helped each other through tough times — times when people were more self-reliant and not so dependent upon government.
The responsibility falls to all of us, as a community of “caring” people to help our neighbors. We must help take care of our community and its people by relying on organizations like United Way and its partners throughout the community.
As Co-Chairs of the United Way of Kitsap County Annual Community Campaign, we are asking you to help. Please donate what you can and maybe even a little more to help fill the void.
Every dollar counts, and with your help we can make a real difference. We can do more UNITED than we can do alone.

Miller will be a fresh voice on City Council
To the editor:
I support Amy Miller and her campaign for City Council (Position #5), I hope you will too.
Amy is a wife and a mother of two. She believes strongly that families should have a voice, are represented, and, most importantly, heard by our City Council. I believe that if Amy is elected my family will be well represented. She will work hard to have safer parks that are updated, more recreational opportunities, a strong and growing economy, and a vibrantly thriving community that is Port Orchard.
Our downtown area should be a destination location with thriving businesses that attract visitors from all over Washington State. Amy has traveled across our state working for nine years with small businesses, learning what they need to survive in our economy and state. I believe Amy is the right person to help our city attract and keep businesses for the long term.
Port Orchard is a lovely small town with amazing people. I am happy and privileged to be able to live here and raise my family. I know that if Amy is elected, she feels the same way I do, and will fight to keep the small town charm that is uniquely Port Orchard.
If Amy Miller is elected, it will be a turning point for the city, a fresh voice, with a community-oriented person representing Port Orchard. Please join me in Voting for Amy Miller Position 5.

Lucarelli has experience to serve community well
To the editor:
In regard to Position #5 for the Port Orchard City Council, I highly recommend Cindy Lucarelli.
If you believe in Representatives with extensive business experience (25 years), someone who is fiscally conservative, has been an advocate for families and children, has attended Council meetings for the past five years and believes in promoting tourism i.e. Cedar Cove Chairman, etc., then Cindy is the person you’re seeking for that position. She certainly has my vote!

Options for ‘non-conforming’ waterfront property
To the Editor:
I have recently had constituent enquiries relating to the “non-conforming” status of residences on waterfront property — which can be lakes, streams, rivers, ocean front, etc.
This past session we passed SSB 5451 which came through my Local Government Committee, where I serve as Ranking Member. This bill passed the Legislature, was signed by the Governor and took effect Thursday.
This will serve as a tool that local government can use to:
1) Authorize residential structures and appurtenant structures that are legally established and are used for a conforming use (but that do not meet standards for setbacks, buffers or yards, area, bulk, height or density) to be considered conforming structures;
2) Redevelopment, expansion, change with the class of occupancy or replacement of the residential structure if it is consistent with the master program, including requirements for no net loss of shoreline ecological functions.
This bill’s provisions are optional to local government.
I recently met with the Kitsap Director of Community Development. He will be getting this information to Kitsap Commissioners and feels it will be very helpful in the shorelines updating process.
I would advise property owners, living on waterfront, to contact your appropriate local authority (city or county) for support of this local action option.
