21st annual Poulsbo Arts Festival opens this Friday.

POULSBO — “Sunshine with booths on nice green grass and happy people,” said Greg Enright, president of the Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest. Sounds like Seurat’s 1884 oil vision on the Island La Grande Jatte, but this weekend it’s what visitors and residents in Poulsbo can expect to find.

Historic downtown will once again get in touch with its artistic side during the 21st annual Poulsbo Arts Festival. The event is setting up shop in Little Norway’s Waterfront Park Friday through Sunday. Enright said 40 artists are on their way for the show, roughly a dozen of them local to the area.

New additions to recurring favorites include California-based photographer Gary Love and woodcarver Warren Young. A trio of glass artists, along with a music box booth, clothes makers and even Pottery for the Birds (a husband/wife combo of pottery and bird photography) are lined up for the show.

“It’s a pretty good mix,” Enright said. “We try and make sure that we have a little bit of everything.”

Western Washington University students will be back to host a Children’s Art Activity Section, providing kids with hands-on entertainment. In addition to the already full venue, there will be live music and food.

“One of the nicest things is that we get a lot of vendors that want to come back to our show because it’s small and the crowds are nice,” Enright said. “The environment with Liberty Bay and the boats, even for the vendors — not only for the crowds — they just love it. That is really a positive sign for Poulsbo itself.”

The art show not only offers the chance to browse quality works and purchase handcrafted items from local artists, but it offers visitors the chance to talk with the artists themselves. Poulsbo’s Art League will again be displaying their works.

Also new this year, Enright said the event has extended its Saturday hours to partially coincide with the city’s centennial street dance, held that night on Front Street beginning at 6 p.m.
