December 5
7:23 p.m.
• High in — and on — his car: Cencom advised officers that a man who appeared to be high on drugs was climbing on a car in the parking lot of Towne Square Port Orchard, just outside the Save A Lot store. When they located the suspect, he told the officers he was climbing on his car to see why his rear-view mirror had fallen off. During questioning, the suspect repeatedly fidgeted and could not keep still, leading the police to believe he was probably intoxicated. The officers released him at the scene with instructions not to drive home. But when they drove off, they waited around the corner out of sight to see if he would start the car. About three minutes later, the engine started and the officers returned to the scene. This time, they called a canine unit who discovered methamphetamine hidden in the vehicle’s door. Officers impounded the vehicle.
8:18 p.m.
• Fred Meyer shoplifter arrested: Officers were informed the loss-prevention specialist at the Fred Meyer store on Sedgwick Avenue had pursued and detained a suspect who had shoplifted food out of the store. The suspect was booked at the Kitsap County Jail.
8:51 p.m.
• Assaulted with chicken wings: Officers responded to a report of domestic violence in the 1100 block of Tacoma Avenue. Upon arrival, officers confronted a barefoot female who reported her boyfriend had assaulted her by pulling her hair and throwing hot chicken wings at her. She said she had confronted the intoxicated boyfriend about text messages he had received from another female and accused him of having an affair. The boyfriend accused the female of biting him on the arm, but no bite marks were detected. The boyfriend was transported to Kitsap County Jail, booked for domestic violence and held on $25,000 bail. Since he was a sailor assigned to the USS John Stennis, his commander was also notified.
December 7
3:04 p.m.
• Package of sweets stolen: Officers were called to a Killeen Place SW home by woman who said the Post Office had left a package, as well as three weeks worth of undelivered mail, on her front porch around noon. When she returned at 2 p.m., however, the items were missing. She said the package contained about $90 worth of candy and jellies she had mailed herself from Hawaii.
December 8
9:33 a.m.
• Who needs protection? An officer randomly checking license plates on Cline Avenue turned up a driver with an invalid license. After stopping the vehicle near the Kitsap County Courthouse, the officer confronted the suspect while several passengers exited the vehicle and entered the courthouse. On further checking the officer discovered the suspect had a protection order against him that had been issued by one of the females who had been a passenger in his vehicle. The female also had an outstanding warrant against her for third-degree theft. Both the male and female suspects were arrested and booked into Kitsap County Jail.
December 9
12:09 p.m.
• Meth addicts, shoplifters nabbed: Officers were advised by Cencom that two shoplifting suspects had departed the Sedgwick Road Albertson’s store and gotten into a red and white Chevy Blazer. A witness reported the vehicle had gotten onto SR-16 and headed east. The vehicle was pulled over by Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies at the Mullenix Road exit. Two female suspects were questioned at the scene and were determined to be the shoplifters based on still photos taken by the store’s loss-prevention specialist on closed-circuit television cameras. Both suspects were transported to Kitsap County Jail, where the driver was discovered to have methamphetamine concealed in her clothing. The impounded vehicle was also found to have narcotics in a makeup case laying on the front seat.
December 11
10:22 p.m.
• Rowdy pair bounced from Myhre’s: Officers responding to reports of a fight in progress at Myhre’s Restaurant on Bay Street encountered a male and a female outside the establishment. After a brief physical altercation, the officers were able to handcuff the male suspect. After questioning witnesses inside the restaurant, it turned out the intoxicated suspects had been dancing inside and accidentally overturned a table and several drinks, prompting the waitress and bartender to try to throw them out. The male suspect became combative and allegedly punched the bartender in the eye. He was booked on charges of fighting in public, malicious mischief and disorderly conduct.
December 12
10:24 a.m.
• Water? What water? Due to heavy rain the previous two days, approximately 15 inches of water had piled up on Bay Street, leading to the road’s temporary closure. Nonetheless, officers noted a black Chevy Blazer attempting to negotiate the deep water in the 700 block of Bay Street. The driver was later spotted driving around the safety barricade at Bay Street and Port Orchard Boulevard and stopped by the officer. When questioned, the driver said he needed to check on a friend’s boat moored in the Port Orchard Marina. He was cited for failure to obey a traffic device and released at the scene. While driving away, the suspect allegedly cursed at the police officer and made an obscene gesture.
