HONOR ROLL

CORVALLIS, ORE. — Khara Croswaite, senior, psychology; and Landon Fuhriman, senior, sociology, both of Bremerton, were recently named to Oregon State University’s honor roll for winter term. To be named to the list, students must earn a 3.5 grade point average or better while taking at least 12 credits.

BASIC TRAINING COMPLETED

GREAT LAKES, ILL. — Navy Seaman Recruit Mitchell Harper, son of Virgina and Ervin Harper of Bremerton, recently completed

U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Harper completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis also was placed on physical fitness.

Harper is a 2008 graduate of Olympic High School.

NORWEGIAN GENEALOGY SEMINAR

The last day to register for the “I am Norsk II” genealogy seminar is Friday, April 10.

The seminar — Saturday, May 3, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Bremerton’s Son’s of Norway Oslo Lodge (next to Olympic College’s main parking lot) — will feature a full day of learning about Norway and how to research ancestors in a warm atmosphere of Norwegian friends and cultural artifacts. Seminar also to include genealogy book sales, Scandinavian arts and crafts and raffle prizes throughout the day.

SPELLING BEE SPONSORS

The 18th annual Literacy Council Corporate Spelling Bee is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 7 at the Silverdale Beach Hotel.

The Literacy Council of Kitsap invites local businesses and organizations to donate $500 to field a team of three spellers. YOGA CLASSES

“Spring Into Joy with Kundalini Yoga & Meditation,” a four-week beginners’ class, begins Tuesday, April 7 at the Givens Community Center, Olympic Room, 1026 Sidney Ave., Port Orchard.
